Pet Peeve!!!!
I was watching the opening ceremony for this past weekend NASCAR race at Houston. During the National Anthem, I couldn't stop myself from ranting and raving at Anthony and I realized how much the following grates on my verve to histeria: Why is it that women feel they can wear their hats and visors during the National Anthem but men have to remove their covers??!!! They were focusing on Kevin Harvick and his wife, DeLana, and for the past few races I've watched, she's always wearing a hat during the Anthem (along with numerous women in the pits and stands). Why!? Take off the damn hat!! Show some respect. You're hair will survive. For a progressive generation with litanies of womens' rights and equality, don't be the double standard. Fashion nor ignorance are valid excuses. The Anthem is a representation of the freedom our Nation attained upon the backs of our servicemembers. During the few minutes of that song, we offer a moment of respect and reverence to our Country and those that defend Her regarless of political emotions and views. That moment is extended by certain small gestures such as placing the hand over the heart, REMOVING OUR COVERS (unless you're in uniform), rending a salute in uniform or standing at attention if you're a current or prior servicemember in civies. People are always watching and such actions reflect a poor sense of awareness from someone with deminished character and lack of respect and courtesy.
