Honeymoon!!
We orginially planned to go to one of the various islands in the Caribbean but GEEZ, can those plane tickets be any more expensive. So in a last minute decision, we booked a plane ticket to Los Cabos San Lucas, Baja Mexico. Think of Los Cabos as a few steps above Cancun. Actually, Anthony's parents and Krystal (sis-in law) and her new husband were already going there, so we hitched along. We got a pleasant surprise when we arrived. Our parents procured a hotel for us separately at Melia Hotel so all six of us didn't have to share a room. Thanks Mom and Dad!!
Hotel:
The hotel was beautiful. A very chic ultra lounge motif with satellite and a HD plasma TV in our room. Caters to mostly young upper class vacationers.
After falling on top of the bed, we wish we could have taken it home with us. Although I'm sure we could have (everything seemed to be for sale here), our pockets just are not that deep. I loved the poolside cabanas as I swam and took leisurely naps. Unfortunately, half way through our stay we had to switch rooms because our bathroom ceiling was leaking. Fortunately, our new room was right next door.
Beach:
The beach and water was pristine and blue. More of a deep blue/ green rather than aquamarine but the water was inviting. Our location was on the tip of the Baja pennisula but we resided slightly more along the Sea of Cortez side with the Pacific a short boat ride away around the tip. Since the Pacific side is fairly rough waters, swimming is not advised. Only on the Sea of Cortez side. Personally, the water was a bit warm for me as the temperatures were HOT but not too humid. I guess you could call it "dry heat" at times. I like my water a little cool so it's refreshing after I've sweated off about 10 pounds.
(Side note: Does it bug you when people say: "It's hot, but at least it's dry heat." It's doesn't bother me, hey I even say it. Just wondering)
Anthony was so cute playing in the water. He definitely loves his water.
Wear:
I got a blue pull over beach dress that I wore most of the time so I didn't even wear 2/3 of what I packed! (And I thought I did a good job packing too!). Anthony obviously did a better job of it than I did. I think he wore just about everything. Well, expect a couple of items I refused he wear because, well it was just plain =oP. I told him, he's burning them when we return home!
San Lucas:
Los Cabos actually consists of two areas: San Lucas and San Jose.
San Jose is a quite picturesque village. On the other side of the spectrum, San Lucas is party town central. Located here is the ever populer Cabo Wabo, the club/ bar/ restaurant owned by Sammy Hagar (like my dad always tells me: If you don't know...look it up!!) and the imitation Senor Frogs, Squid Roe (I know, what were they thinking). We went into town one night for the night life but it's not really my scene. There were some good drink specials during the week but like I said, not really my scene.
Food:
I love food and I was kind of looking forward to some good Baja cooking.
All I can say is, =o
A couple of times, the food was pretty good, but never expectional. Not even the fish tacos!! I do have to say, I had one of the best Pina Colada. Yum Yum. It was in a small bar in a shopping mall courtyard. I tried the drink is various other bars but they never could measure up.
Glass Bottom Boat:
I would recommend taking a glass bottom boat to view some of the popular areas.
**Disclaimer: No, the entire bottom of the boat is NOT glass. Only a small 2 X 4 area in the middle of the boat.**
When you take the boat, you'll get to cruise by the tourist and local favorites: The Arch and Lovers Beach. The Arch is a natural rockformation that extends into the water from a rock wall. Lover's Beach is a small stretch of beach that presides along the Sea of Cortez side. Consequently, on the other side of the beach is Divorce Beach which lies along the Pacific Ocean where the waters are extremely rough and dangerours. I should also point out, that Divorce Beach is about 3x the stretch of land as Lover's Beach. (Hmmmmm..... how symbolic).

Yes, I got it. It debilitated me for part of a day and night then reoccurred upon my return home. Let me say, the bathroom became my second home. Yuck!
It was a great vacation and I needed the time off while it was a good last "hurrah" before Anthony started his new job. I was happy to return to a San Diego, if only for the repreive from the temperature in Los Cabos.
